Like Minds, Like Mine

Funded by the New Zealand government, Like Minds, Like Mine is a public awareness programme to increase social inclusion and end discrimination towards people with experience of mental illness or distress.

Working Well Guide

The Mental Health Foundation’s Working Well Guide and resources provide organisations with the tools to create a culture that enhances and protects people’s mental health. Good mental health leads to better engagement, reduced absenteeism and higher productivity, while improving people’s wellbeing, morale and job satisfaction.

Just a thought

An initiative by Hamilton-based Wise Group, Just a Thought offers evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy online and is designed for people with mild-to-moderate symptoms of anxiety and depression.

‘Here to help u’ successfully enables people to access a wide range of free support by simply submitting one help request online. It’s quick. It’s convenient. It’s help made easy...no judgement, no barriers, and no unnecessary complexity.

Whatever it is, we’re here. Free call or free text 1737 any time, 24 hours a day. You’ll get to talk to (or text with) a trained counsellor or talk to a peer support worker. Our service is completely free.

Open Minds

The Open Minds videos, managers guide, tips, factsheets, posters and FAQs provide managers with practical tips to help with conversations about mental health in the workplace.

Mentemia

Mentemia is a free app - it's packed with evidence-based ideas and tools to help you learn how to be well, and stay well. It helps you deal with the most common stressors we experience in the modern connected world today - poor sleep, anxiety and stress.

Wellplace NZ

Wellplace.nz is a website run by the Health Promotion Agency (HPA). HPA developed this site to bring together practical ideas, tools and resources for people who are leading wellbeing activity in New Zealand workplaces.

Farmstrong

Farmstrong is a nationwide wellbeing programme for the rural community. Our aim is to help you live well to farm well.

Progress to Health

Progress to Health is a community based organisation supporting people with long-term mental health conditions or disabilities throughout the Waikato, Taranaki and Taupo.With expertise in mental well-being, we work to support people to make positive changes in their lives by achieving personal goals and reconnecting with their community. 

Clearhead

Clearhead is an online, one-stop-shop platform, designed by NZ doctors, that empowers New Zealanders to find the help they need. We do this by helping you understand your symptoms and providing personalised recommendations through our digital wellbeing assistant.

Small Steps

Small Steps are digital tools, developed by Te Hiringa Hauora in partnership with Clearhead. The Small Steps website is a place where people of Aotearoa (and further abroad!) can take small steps on their journey to improve wellbeing.

National helplines

Depression-specific helplines

  • Depression Helpline – 0800 111 757 or free text 4202 (to talk to a trained counsellor about how you are feeling or to ask any questions).
  • www.depression.org.nz – includes The Journal online help service.
  • SPARX.org.nz –  online e-therapy tool provided by the University of Auckland that helps young people learn skills to deal with feeling down, depressed or stressed.

Help for parents, family and friends

  • EDANZ – improving outcomes for people with eating disorders and their families. Freephone 0800 2 EDANZ or 0800 233 269, or in Auckland 09 522 2679. Or email info@ed.org.nz.Parent Help – 0800 568 856 for parents/whānau seeking support, advice and practical strategies on all parenting concerns. Anonymous, non-judgemental and confidential.
  • Family Services 211 Helpline – 0800 211 211 for help finding (and direct transfer to) community based health and social support services in your area.
  • Skylight – 0800 299 100 for support through trauma, loss and grief; 9am–5pm weekdays.
  • Yellow Brick Road – Supporting families towards mental wellbeing.

  • 0508MUSICHELPS – The Wellbeing Service is a 24/7 online, on the phone and in-person counselling service fully funded by the NZ Music Foundation and provided free of charge to those in the Kiwi music community who can't access the help they need due to hardship and other circumstances. Call 0508 MUSICHELP.
  • Shine – 0508 744 633 confidential domestic abuse helpline.
  • Quit Line – 0800 778 778 smoking cessation help.Vagus Line – 0800 56 76 666 (Mon, Wed, Fri 12 noon – 2pm). Promote family harmony among Chinese, enhance parenting skills, decrease conflict among family members (couple, parent-child, in-laws) and stop family violence.
  • Women's Refuge Crisisline – 0800 733 843 (0800 REFUGE) (for women living with violence, or in fear, in their relationship or family).Shakti Crisis Line – 0800 742 584 (for migrant or refugee women living with family violence).
